Rihanna was bestowed with the title of National Hero of Barbados, becoming only the second woman in history to receive this prestigious honor
Yesterday (November 30th), Rihanna graced the commemorative ceremony for Barbados’ Independence Day to accept the accolade of National Hero of her homeland.
Prime Minister Mia Mottley conferred the honor upon the renowned artist in recognition of her significant contributions and devotion to the nation.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister remarked, “We hope Rihanna will continue to shine like a diamond, bringing honor and pride to our nation through her works and actions.”
Notably, Rihanna is the second woman in history to be awarded the title of National Hero of Barbados, following in the footsteps of religious leader Sarah Ann Gill. Reflecting on this honor, the hitmaker of “Umbrella” shared, “This is a day I will never forget, a day I never imagined I could attain.”
“Barbadians are people of great pride. Wherever I go in the world, I will carry this pride with me. The world will always know me as a Barbadian national hero,” Rihanna declared during the nation’s founding ceremony.
