Stephen Curry has embarked on a powerful partnership with Rakuten to amplify the voices of Black fashion designers throughout the 2024 NBA season.
As part of this collaboration, the 35-year-old Curry will engage in enlightening conversations with designers who are represented by the Black In Fashion Council.
In addition, he will proudly showcase their creations during tunnel walks, using his platform to bring attention to their brands and celebrate their remarkable journeys.
Among the talented labels Curry is collaborating with are Advisry, Des Pierrot, Head of State, Pierre Blanc, and Savant Studios.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the point guard for the Golden State Warriors expressed his enthusiasm for utilizing his influence to elevate the work of these designers within the fashion industry.
“It’s an incredible opportunity to promote representation in a field that greatly needs it,” Curry shared exclusively with PEOPLE. “While I may not be a designer or a fashion mogul, I believe there are creative ways to shed light on the exceptional talent that exists. I am thrilled for the world to discover these designers on a new stage.”
Curry has had the opportunity to meet many of these designers for the first time, hearing their inspiring stories of how they entered the industry and what drives them and their brands. He personally met with Paul Richards, Keith Herron, and Des Pierre, witnessing their excitement and passion for working on this collaborative project together.
“You’ll see me wearing their looks during the tunnel walks, and then you’ll have the chance to shop their designs through Rakuten’s services,” Curry added.
Stephen Curry’s partnership with Rakuten not only demonstrates his unwavering support for Black designers but also his commitment to creating opportunities for underrepresented voices in the fashion world. By integrating their creations into his own public presence, he is helping to break down barriers and introduce a wider audience to the incredible talent that lies within the Black fashion community.
