William and Katherine, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are reportedly heartbroken over fears that King Charles, known for his workaholic nature, might overexert himself after spending 11 weeks out of the public eye for cancer treatment.
While King Charles has been eager to resume his royal duties, William and Katherine have expressed concerns about his wellbeing.
A friend of William shared their worries, stating, “He knows his dad loves work, but he does worry about him.”
Another source described King Charles as a “caged lion” who struggles with a light schedule, eager to be active outside the palace walls.
The 75-year-old monarch genuinely feels he is letting people and organizations down if he’s not fulfilling his formal role.
To prevent King Charles’s public appearances from being too draining, Buckingham Palace has ensured his schedule includes ample downtime. Despite ongoing cancer treatment, King Charles remains committed to his goals, including riding horseback at his annual birthday parade, subject to supervision and permission from his doctors.
William has previously admitted to feeling frustrated by his father’s long hours. Now that King Charles has resumed his public duties, the pace hasn’t slowed. An insider revealed, “Some people might think he is trying to pedal twice as hard because he is conscious that time is running ahead of him.”
During his downtime, King Charles has been productive, planning and thinking about future projects. His summer calendar is packed with events, including a potential visit to Normandy, trooping the color, Royal Ascot, garden parties, a Japanese State dinner, and the Royal Family’s annual retreat to Scotland.
Buckingham Palace announced King Charles’s cancer diagnosis on February 5th, 2024, following his hospitalization for an enlarged prostate. A month later, Princess Catherine also revealed her own cancer diagnosis and is currently on a break from royal duties for preventative chemotherapy.
Meanwhile, William and Katherine have unveiled a new film to mark Mental Health Awareness Week. Although the royal couple does not appear in the film, their influence is evident. Catherine and William have long been advocates for mental health, emphasizing its importance alongside physical health.
In 2017, they launched the Heads Together campaign, uniting eight charity partners to encourage more open conversations about mental health in the UK.
