With her daughter Princess Charlotte and sister Pippa Middleton by her side, Princess Kate stunned the crowd with an unexpected appearance at Wimbledon’s Centre Court.
A sincere standing ovation awaited the 42-year-old monarch when she entered the court on Sunday, dressed in a stylish purple gown.
As she made her way into Centre Court, Kate, who looked stunning in a fashionable purple ensemble, was clearly touched by the enthusiastic welcome and ovation she received.
Princess Kate will be making her second public appearance since her cancer diagnosis was announced in March, as Kensington Palace has just announced that she will be present for the Men’s Final to give the trophy.
She and Prince William and their children celebrated the King’s birthday at Trooping the Colour last month, where she was last seen.
The crowd went wild as they saw Wimbledon regular Kate arrive. They cheered as she escorted a beaming nine-year-old Charlotte to her seat, with Pippa close after. A charming discussion between the royals was spotted by Nicola Hickling.
Next, Kate looked over at Debbie Jevans, a former tennis star in a cream suit sitting to the left of her, and said with a smile, “It’s so good, and we’re seated together.”
As she settled into her seat at Wimbledon, the Princess of Wales—a tennis fanatic—was spotted waving to her devoted admirers. She was surrounded by spectators who persisted in watching the tournament as it neared its annual end.
The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), whose official colors are purple and green, is responsible for hosting The Championships, and Kate has been a patron of the institution since 2016.
Kate has been a guest in the Royal Box at Wimbledon before. She frequently attends the finals as a devoted tennis fan. Guests and friends of the All England Club are entertained in the Royal Box, which dates back to 1922. A specific invitation from the Chairman of the All England Club is required to sit in one of the famous green Lloyd Loom wicker chairs.
The Duchess of Gloucester, who has served as an Honorary President of the Lawn Tennis Association for 25 years, was prepared to take the Princess’s place in the event that she could not make it owing to her continuing cancer treatment. The Princess’s participation was later confirmed, though.
It will be either Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic who she will proudly award the prize to.
The princess has spoken out about her “making good progress” and the fact that “there are good days and bad days” in her most recent post. “I am not out of the woods yet,” she said, adding that she hoped to “join a few public engagements over the summer”.
To prepare for her abdominal surgery, Kate announced in January that she would be stepping aside from her public activities.
